I have been working on my BBP style since February and have found the free downloadable Story Template and the audivisual tutorial really helpful as I unfroze my old bullet habits and learned a new way of presenting. The feedback I received at a London conference were reallly positive. As I came out of the first learning phase I began to develop distracting behaviour! I am forever looking at the Blank Columns of the Word Story Template and thinking "I've got to fill those in soon!!". This distracts me from really thinking out the first 5 slides (Act 1) which are key to the overall excellence of the whole.

Yesterday I took advantage of the discount on the BBP Add-in. It was easy to install and begin using... well it was after Cliff gently reminded me to read the instructions on installing the PowerPoint template obtained from his BBP download area in addition to running the exe file!!

The result of my first effort on the 5-min column I have attached as an Acrobat file in Notes format. This is equivalent to Livemeeting slide 57-59. I can now start working on the 15 minute column (upto slide 64). If I hit a problem I have found changing the slide title updates my story template and vice versa.. which I find useful. When the thought hits me I can capture it without worrying about which mode I am in.

In summary: the add-in is a small investment for big rewards!

Jim,
At last someone who has actually used the add-in!!

I am a recent convert to BBP and am always interested in utilising tools to gain productivity.  I too grabbed hold of the add-in to create my first BBP presentation but had to abandon it at the end.

Its ability to create the first pass PPT was fine once you realised that you had to enter every required field - the save function does not work as documented - and you create the PPT.  Mind you exiting prior to creating the PPT actually "loses" everything that you have done.

My real problems started  when  I started to restructure the storyboard.  I'm not sure where I read it now but  the advice  was to go back and make changes to the storyboard before committing the change to the PPT.  But in using the add-in as the storyboard, my changes were not being properly saved by the add-in.  It seemed the only way to save the changes was to exit and re-open the PPT but then when you updated the PPT, I would get a variety of outcomes ranging from lost slides to slides out of sequence.  After the 5th try, I was really running up against time and had to abandon the use of the add-in.

Fortunately I had done my initial planning using Mindmanager and had kept it updated as I made my structural change as it was my intention  to share my experience on the Mindmapping thread.  Lucky I had because I was able to drop to PPT out of Mindmanager.

But to really rub salt into the injury - after spending an hour today documenting 4 instances of simple things with step by step problem re-creation where the add-in is at odds with its documentation so that I could submit my concerns to Tech Support, I find that the support team only provides support to those people who have purchased the product!!!!  Since I am in evaluation mode - no support. But I'm not about to fork out U$30 for a product that appears to have substantial problems.

My take on the add-in is that the promise is great but very short on delivery at this time.

Thanks on bearing with me to this point.  It appears that your experiences have been far more positive so may be the problem is software related  I'm running XP Pro SP2, Powerpoint XP SP3 and Sociable Media Powerpoint Add-in V1 Build 25.

How does this correspond to your set-up?  Do you know anyone in Tech Support who could help me?

Hey I just noticed on the About screen that once I purchase the add-in I can upgrade to the full version.  I am assuming you have the full version - did you ever try the evaluation version and if so what differences exist between the two?

As I said the promise of the add-in is great but I just need some help in getting over the purchasing line.  Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I used p218 of the BBP book to assist in installation. I use "save as" command to save the changes, if I am being really paranoid I open the BBP editor and check changes and update in editor efore saving. It is working well now I have installed it correctly (p218). Also I use Visimap to brainstorm the storyboard, drop it into powerpoint... similar I guess to mindmanager

Hi Ian - sorry to hear you had problems with the Add-In.  The company that developed the Add-In -- NetCentrics -- will be glad to work with you to resolve the problems you've been having. They're glad to handle support issues for both the Trial Version and the licensed version.  I've forwarded your email to them at their support email address at smsupport@netcentrics.com; also their support site for the Add-In is here.
